Helping You With

Sleep Apnea Treatment

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in which breathing stops and starts repeatedly during sleep. These interruptions in breathing can last anywhere from 10 seconds to minutes and can occur five or more times an hour.

The three types of sleep apnea are:
• obstructive sleep apnea
• central sleep apnea
• complex sleep apnea

The most common type, obstructive sleep apnea, occurs when throat muscles intermittently relax and block the airway during sleep. As a result, sufferers often wake up briefly to resume breathing, leading to fragmented and poor-quality sleep.

“Before I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and started using CPAP, I constantly felt exhausted, had no energy, and struggled to stay awake even while driving. I was struggling with high blood pressure, along with persistent back and ankle pain, and my motivation was nonexistent.

Since I started treatment, that crazy tiredness is gone! My blood pressure is back to normal, my pain is way down, and I’m feeling so much more motivated. Even with just five hours of sleep, I’m not drowsy throughout the day anymore. I used to hit the hay around 5 or 6 PM, but now I can stay up until 8 or 10 PM and wake up at 4:30 AM without any issues staying awake! Now my coworkers’ kid that they want to take my machine away because I have too much energy and talk too much.

Initially, I was hesitant about using a CPAP machine, but once I experienced positive changes, I became a true believer. I encourage everyone to try it and stick with it—you’ll feel so much better. Plus, the team at Dedicated Sleep is fantastic! They’re always available to answer questions and help with any concerns.
I want to give a big shoutout to Annetta for putting up with me, and the Dedicated Sleep team for their prompt support in getting my CPAP set up at the beginning of my treatment. It has truly transformed my life. Thanks again!”

What Happens When Sleep Apnea is Left Untreated?

Untreated sleep apnea can significantly impact daily life and long-term health, increasing the risk for the following:

  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Hypertension
  • Acid Reflux
  • Abnormal Cholesterol
  • Heart Failure
  • And more

People with sleep apnea often experience daytime fatigue, making it difficult to focus and stay alert. This lack of restful sleep can also contribute to mood swings, irritability, and difficulty managing daily tasks. The constant strain on the body from disrupted sleep can lead to serious health complications over time, including cardiovascular problems.

Finding the right Sleep apnea treatment

When most people think of treatment for sleep apnea, a CPAP machine often comes to mind. A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine is a device that uses a mask to deliver constant air pressure, keeping your airways open while you sleep. While effective, it is not the only option available for managing sleep apnea.

An alternative treatment option is oral appliance therapy. This approach involves wearing a custom-made device that a dentist specially fits to you. The appliance helps reposition your lower jaw and tongue to keep your airway open during sleep, reducing the symptoms of sleep apnea.

Oral appliance therapy can relieve the following symptoms:

• Sleep Apnea
• Snoring
• Teeth Grinding
• And more

At Dedicated Sleep, we understand that finding the correct treatment is a personal journey. That is why we are here to help connect you with a dentist who not only excels at oral appliance therapy but also works with your insurance provider. We are committed to making the process as smooth as possible, so you can focus on getting the restful sleep you need. Whether you are exploring alternatives to CPAP or just beginning your journey toward better sleep, we are here to guide you every step of the way.
